The game originated in France and then was introduced in North America. At first, the French called it "Vingt-et-un," which means "Twenty-one."

Then people started to call it "Blackjack," because of the odds the early game provided.

Back then, if your first two cards were a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades, you got paid Ten to One on your wager. In the long run, they got rid of this rule.

But the game is still called Blackjack today. By the way, Jack of Spades is a Black-Jack.
